Representatives of the People

KLM plans to field candidates for all elective seats all over Kenya to compete in the next general elections (2022 or earlier) and be elected as representatives of the sovereign people of Kenya, pursuant to the provisions relating to elections set out in the Constitution of Kenya. The suitable applicants shall be nominated to compete as candidates for the following delegated positions:

1. The President of Kenya and Deputy President
2. Member of the Senate
3. Member of the National Assembly
4. Women Representative
5. Governor and Deputy Governor
6. Member of County Assembly

Deliverables

1. Obedience, faithfulness, respect and upholding of the Constitution of Kenya
2. Transformative, democratic and pro-people leadership
3. Good governance, trustworthy with public money and exercise of fiduciary responsibility
4. Adherence to the rule of law
5. Believes in devolution and the need to advance it
6. Respect to and promotion of public participation

Personal Attributes for the Task

The suitable candidates shall have the following attributes

1. Is a citizen of Kenya
2. Is 18 years and above
3. Satisfies the provisions of Chapter 6  of the Constitution of Kenya and specifically
   1. Article 75 (1) – Relating to public and private conduct
   2. Article 76 2 (a) – Relating to having a bank account outside Kenya
4. Has no history of  having benefited from the proceeds of corruption 
5. Is not suspected of corruption whether by association or conduct
6. Fulfils the requirement of any law relating to elections presently in force in Kenya
7. Has not been convicted of a criminal offence (except in the case of malicious prosecution by state agencies for pro-reform advocacy)
8. Is a people servant
9. Has no history of sexism, ethnic bigotry and associated backwardness

3. Proof of defence of human rights and democracy
4. Reference/endorsement letters from at least 100 Kenyans of good standing in your community and willing to contacted for further details if needed

The Constitution aims to bring an end to the organisation of politics through division; cement agreement on national values and principles; promote integrity in public and private leadership; and build depersonalised national institutions.

The struggle for a prosperous, democratic and stable Kenya is not over and despite having successfully fought for a new constitution, power is still largely imperial, exercised in a brutal and unaccountable manner by a political elite who have in the last decade taken every step to undermine it.

We have a duty and a responsibility to defend Kenya’s constitution and we must actively resist the schemes by the political class to hijack, mangle and wreck the it, and thus remove the checks that make the exercise of political power onerous. The constitutional product is only as good—and as secure—as the process that creates it.

In this regard, KLM will push for radical implementation of the constitution through aggressive civic education and will support and partner with political actors, movements and organisations who plead fidelity to the constitution as the true, sovereign will of the people.

KLM is committed to strengthening devolution through civic education, lobby for laws and policies that cement equitable distribution of resources and will lend its voice and support to the Council of Governors’ demands for the arrears in development funds that the national government continues to refuse to disburse.

This, despite the existence of anti-graft institutions, committees, working groups, task forces, units; drafted all the frameworks and policy papers; taken all the advice possible from multilaterals, bilaterals, NGOs, the private sector and others including churches; enacted all the laws and their subsidiaries; held all the conferences, summits, workshops and get-togethers possible, Kenya is still classified as one of the most corrupt States in the world.

Indeed, corruption persists in Kenya primarily because there are people in power who benefit from it and the existing governance institutions lack both the will and capacity to stop them from doing so.

Kongamano La Mageuzi is committed by strengthening these institutions to tackle corruption; advocate moral and legal sanction against the corrupt and will create a political and national culture where corrupt individuals are frowned upon and not celebrated as heroes.

Unless actions are taken to build up local food systems and reverse the growing reliance on imports of cereals and other staple foods, there will be a food crisis Time has been wasted on failed programmes and policies to support corporate agribusiness while doing little to effectively challenge the corporations that are dumping surplus food commodities, driving up global greenhouse gas emissions and destroying biodiversity. 

KLM is committed to must urgently collaborate and partner with like-minded people to join forces to eliminate the dependence on food imports and realise food sovereignty in Kenya to respond to the climate crisis.

There is absolute incoherence and inconsistency in the public policy priorities. From a glitzy manifesto that has been honoured more in the breach than in the observance, to the Big 4 Agenda, the Nairobi Regeneration Team, the Anti-Corruption, we are all over the place, and are now consumed by succession politics.

All the while, the material conditions of our people are worse than there were during independence because of these baronial elite’s largesse and plunder of public resources. 

KLM is determined to change this trajectory by spearheading commissions of Inquiry, on the public debt incurred since independence and will hold a convention to chart a new economic blueprint for the prosperity of Kenyan people.

It has created unprecedented disruption for the healthcare industry, forcing hospitals, organisations fighting infectious diseases, healthcare workers, social services and more to think about alternative ways of delivering medical services while adapting to the new environment.

It has also highlighted the strong need for sustainable investment in health systems, including in the health workforce, and for decent working conditions, training and equipment, especially in relation to personal protective equipment and occupational safety.

More fundamentally, the pandemic has revealed that healthcare can’t be privatized and governments role in provision this public good cant be emphasised. 

KLM is committed that all citizens of the nation should have available acceptable public health services, without discrimination, and to push for health reforms to create a minimum national health standard to be set by the state and other national institutions.

Indeed, COVID-19 has left many children in primary and secondary schools out of school. The topic of innovation in education has never been so crucial and the decisions we shall make today will have long-term consequences for the futures of education, our children and our country. Choices must be based on a humanistic vision of education and development, and human rights.

KLM is committed to strengthen education as a common good; expand the definition of the right to education so that it addresses the importance of connectivity and access to knowledge and information; value the teaching profession and teacher collaboration; promote student, youth and children’s participation and rights; protect the social spaces provided by schools as we transform education; expand the avenues of education beyond the classroom and ensure scientific, (liberal) arts and technological literacy within the curriculum that centres the people as the key drivers of progress.

Indeed, majority of the population is very dependent on climate-sensitive sectors such as agriculture, water, energy, tourism and wildlife, and health. The impact of climate change therefore increases the vulnerability of the people, the economy and environment to extreme weather events, such as droughts and floods whose occurrence is now more frequent.

And although Kenya has Kenya has made progress in mainstreaming adaptation at the national level through its National Adaptation Plan, as well as at the county level with support from its Council of Governors (CoG) and county governments, Kenya is among the countries most vulnerable countries to climate change impacts and is one of the least prepared to manage climate risks. 

KLM strives to champion climate change policy, legal and advocacy instruments to strengthen the mainstreaming of climate adaptation into sustainable development planning for the prosperity of the country.

Successive post-independence leaders used the police units to suppress dissenting voices; as a tool for repression and assassinations as well as detention and torture of political opponents and to advance their own interests. 

The main role of the police service is to prevent, control, detect and investigate crime. But in practice, its members act more like a paramilitary unit trained to deal with conflict and serious disorder. This logic takes on a different nuance in how the police approach and treat its citizens, especially those who are poor, marginalised and dispossessed. 

KLM is committed to a radical policy agenda of police reform that builds on the recommendations from Ransley report on police reform and other documents authored that provide solutions to the curb police brutality, extrajudicial killings and criminal activities perpetrated by the police forces.
